The Straits of Mackinaw
Summer 2001

This was our forth trip on our boat into the Straights of Mackinac - but only the the second trip with our kids. This years trip was unique in many ways. Most noteable was the great weather and the calm lake conditions. Lake Huron was flat every day we were on it... perfect for our group of power boats.

Cheboygan River Lock and Mullet Lake
Our home port for the week was Cheboygan Co Harbor, Lake Huron. It's a perfect gateway to the Straits of Mackinac, Mackinac Is., Drummond Is., the Soo Locks and the Chain of Lakes.

Fort Michilimackinac / Bois Blanc Island
We did a road trip to Mackinac City and visited Historic Fort Michilimackinac. We also did an afternoon fishing run with a short swimming stop on Bois Blanc Island.

Macinaw Island
We spent two nights on the island at the State Marina. One night we had a heck of a thunderstorm and got trapped downtown with the kids. We did the island bike ride and picked up some fudge...

Les Cheneaux Islands / Mighty Mac Bridge
We spent the last night of our vacation anchored off Government Island in the midst of the beautiful Les Cheneaux Islands. The lake was so calm on the way back to Cheboygan that we took the long way home. We went by Hessel, around Marquette Island, down to Mackinaw Island and crossed under the Mackinaw Bridge into Lake Michigan.
